    Cannabinoids

CBD is not a synonym for hemp, and hemp is not a synonym for harmless. Cannabidiol can interact with drugs processed by liver enzymes in the CYP450 family, including some blood thinners and seizure medicines. The one CBD medicine the FDA has approved, Epidiolex, is a prescription drug for specific epilepsies. A tincture on a shelf is not that drug.

    Questions

Question from a new reader: if a drink says 10 mg hemp-derived delta-9, is that the same molecule as delta-9 in high-THC flower? I want the chemistry, not the shop-floor answer.

    Safety

A certificate of analysis is not a vibe. It is a batch-specific lab report. Match the batch number on the jar to the COA, then look at pesticides, heavy metals, and microbials before you look at cannabinoids. If those panels are missing, you do not have a safety story. You have a marketing PDF.

    Nutrition

Hulled hemp seed is a food, not a flower. It is rich in protein and has a useful balance of omega-3 and omega-6, and it contains essentially no cannabinoids. If a package promises calm from hemp hearts alone, ask which molecule is supposed to do that work. Seeds feed you. They do not intoxicate you.

    Law

I arrived thinking hemp was either a miracle or a trick. The useful frame is narrower. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is Cannabis sativa L. with delta-9 THC at or below 0.3 percent by dry weight. States add their own rules. Legal does not mean unregulated, and it does not mean clinically proven.

    Cultivation

Experienced growers still get fooled by label math. THCA is the acidic precursor. Multiply THCA by 0.877 and add delta-9 THC for a rough picture of total potential THC after heat. A flower at 0.2 percent delta-9 and 8 percent THCA is not a low-THC hemp flower once it is decarboxylated. Know which number the law is actually using.

    Safety

New on the Curious path: four minutes on how to read a COA without a chemistry degree. No product links. No brand deals. Just the panels that tell you whether a batch was tested for the things that actually hurt people.

    Terpenes

Terpenes are aromatic molecules, not personalities. Limonene is not the happiness terpene in any study strong enough to print on a jar. What is real: they shape scent, they may nudge how a product feels, and they fingerprint how a plant was grown. Treat them as chemistry, not horoscopes.

    Cannabinoids

CBN shows up as THC ages. The internet calls it the sleep cannabinoid. Human evidence is still thin. If a brand hangs an entire sleep claim on a terpene wheel and a testimonial, you are reading an ad. Bring the question to the Hall and we will separate the study from the sales page.
