Hemp is a crop in the species Cannabis sativa L., grown for fiber, seed, and — under tight limits — flower that stays low in delta-9 THC.
The same species can be bred toward rope, food, or intoxication. The name on the label does not tell you which. Hemp, in U.S. federal language, is the low-delta-9 form of that plant. Everything else people mean by cannabis sits outside that definition, even when the marketing borrows the word hemp.
Species is not the same thing as a legal category, and a legal category is not a health claim.
